聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The Sturgis sports grounds were alive with action when eager fans took to the grounds for the Sports and Rodeo weekend on June 24 and 25.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The weekend kicked off with a pancake breakfast at the Sturgis READ Club.

The Etomaimie Riders Club hosted gymkhana events on both days with several participants.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The slo-pitch tournament featured five teams entered in the one-day tournament. Team Orange Crush won the tournament with Unpredictables in second place and Alcobalics placing third. The other teams entered were the Pastries and the One-Hit Wonders.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 An outdoor mini-trade show featured different vendors displaying their products. Vendors over the two days included: Scentsy, Royal Ford and Royal Honda, BR Honey, Fresh Flies and Jigs, Younique, Pioneer Intuition clothing, Tupperware, Young Living, Caleighs Crystals, Shauna Larsen children's toys, Prairie Western Rustic Art, Granny's Homemade Soaps, Sandra Johnson and Lisa Neilson.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Children's activities were held on the Saturday through the Family Resource Centre and the Main Mobile van.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Ranch Rodeo showcased the many talents and skills of its cowboys entered in the program.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Entertainment at the mini outdoor stage featured Dianne Prekaski; Henry Goodsman and Gus Meerholdz who played bag pipes; Thomas Hazelet; Chris Fisher; Jessie Konkin; Mike and Company, and Sherry Lesser and Les Terry. The bagpipers were from Regina and perform with the Conservatory of Performing Arts Pipe Band.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Fireworks and a Kinsmen cabaret with music by The Unfortunate Sons concluded Saturday events.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A pancake breakfast at the Sturgis sports grounds kicked off events on Sunday, followed by a cowboy church service.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Marcia Griffith and her daughters Charlie and Tyler performed a trick riding routine on June 24. The riders are from Norquay.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The chuckwagon and chariot races were the highlight of the weekend. There were 57 chariots racers and 39 chuckwagon entries. The Eastern Professional Chariot and Chuckwagon Association hosted the event.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The top five chariots racers were: Colt Peterson, Casey Peterson, Wayne Salmond, Colleen Galaway and Twyla Salmond.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The top five chuckwagon racers were Ryan Peterson, Carol Hooge, Casey Peterson, Larry Salmond and Kevin Gareau.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 From its Community Investment Fund, Crossroads Credit Union presented a cheque to Sturgis Sports & Rodeo in the amount of $1,000. The funds will be used to repair the fencing in the corrals and around the track.

鈥淐rossroads is happy to be able to contribute to this event and see the return of the rodeo in Sturgis,鈥� said a release from Crossroads. The purpose of the Crossroads Community Investment Fund is to assist non-profit organizations.

鈥淚t is our goal to provide our communities with a strong foundation to build upon, benefiting our current members and the generations to come,鈥� the release said. 鈥淚n 2017 we have awarded funds to 17 non-profit organizations for a total of $25,000.
