Sturgis mixed curling team brings home bronze medal

The Sturgis Composite High School mixed curling team brought home a bronze medal from the Yorkton Regional High School invitational bonspiel held January 14 and 15 among 13 teams.

            The Sturgis Composite High School mixed curling team brought home a bronze medal from the Yorkton Regional High School invitational bonspiel held January 14 and 15 among 13 teams.

            The team is comprised of Shae Peterson, skip; Brynn Babiuk, third; Kaiden Masley, spare and second; Carter Masley, second; Kylie Babiuk, lead, and Kacie Meroniuk, spare and lead.

            "The Sturgis curlers played extremely well for having been on the ice very little," said Kristen Peterson, coach. "We will be attending districts in Yorkton on January 27.â€

            Sturgis placed first after defeating a team from Brandon, Man. and lost to Sacred Heart in the semifinal. Then the team played a Saltcoats team and defeated it to win the bronze medal. Ituna won the gold medal and Sacred Heart won the silver medal.
