SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Police Service’s Drug Unit made several huge drug busts in the city, one of which is the result of a two-month long investigation.
Last week, SPS’s Drug Unit executed search warrants in separate residential areas and seized over six kilograms of methamphetamine.
SPS’s Drug Unit observed consistent drug trafficking activities during their investigation and on Sept. 2 — with assistance from the Tactical Support Unit — executed the search warrants at a home in the 300 block of Birch Crescent, and in two separate apartments in the 200 and 700 blocks on 5th Avenue North.
SPS seized 6,158.3 grams of methamphetamine that was packed into kilograms, 339.8 grams of powdered cocaine, 5.2 grams of psilocybin (a certain type of mushroom that has hallucinogenic substance), 0.3 grams of fentanyl, over $67,000 in cash, mobile phones, scales and packaging materials.
SPS also made separate arrests where the individuals each were charged with trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine. SPS arrested a 42-year-old man in the 300 block of Confederation Drive and a 27-year-old woman in the 3300 block of Millar Avenue.
The man is also charged with possession of psilocybin and fentanyl, possession of dangerous weapons, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of proceeds of crime of over $5,000, and possession of ammunition contrary to order. The female is also facing charges for possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
Teams from the Investigative Support Division, in a separate inquiry between Aug. 26 and Sept. 2, seized 89.6 grams of cocaine, 7.79 grams of fentanyl, 4.1 grams of crack cocaine, a prohibited .22 caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic rifle, a Winchester 12-gauge pump action shotgun, two airsoft handguns, and $7,400 cash.
Criminal Investigations Superintendent Patrick Nogier said the arrests of the alleged traffickers and seizure of illegal substances is part of the investigative team’s dedication and effort against illegal activities.
The Drug Unit, Guns and Gangs Unit, and the Saskatoon Crime Reduction Team are the teams that are included in the investigation as they remain committed to reduce harm in our communities.
“The message must be clear, organizations responsible for the importation, manufacture, and distribution of illicit drugs in Saskatoon are responsible for an overwhelming proportion of harm in our community,” said Nogier.
“The drug trade is intrinsically linked to guns, violence, and victimization. [SPS] will continue to focus on organizations benefitting from illegal activities as they pertain to the drug trade in Saskatoon.”
Drug-related charges are also pending against three people after CRT discovered an alleged clandestine fentanyl lab following the execution of a search warrant in a home in the 1000 block of Patrick Crescent on September 1.
