A rollover incident that took place just west of Outlook ended up closing off Highway 15, rerouting motorists for an entire afternoon.
On Wednesday, March 1, emergency crews were called to the scene located three kilometers west of town at the junction of Highways 15 and 45, where a tractor trailer unit had rolled onto its side in the north ditch while carrying 196 pigs, according to Sgt. Mark Langager of the Outlook RCMP. Responding to the call were the RCMP, EMS workers, and both the Outlook and Conquest fire departments.
Following the rollover, 40 pigs had become loose and were seen roaming around the trees near the crash site, monitored by those on hand, and another 150 were still in the trailer.
The incident caused Highway 15 to be closed to the public, with drivers rerouted north or south for roughly five and a half hours while crews dealt with the rollover scene.
Unfortunately, approximately 45 pigs had to be put down due to injuries sustained, while the driver of the semi was uninjured.
Sgt. Langager said that the rollover was caused by driver inattention.
The RCMP would like to thank the following for their work in cleaning up the rollover scene and dealing with the livestock involved:Â the Outlook and Conquest fire departments, Outlook EMS, Milden Hutterite Colony, Outlook Veterinary Clinic, Outlook Locker Plant, Lumber Plus, Olemy Hog Barn, Brad's Towing, and local farmers in the area.
