Saskatchewan's top entrepreneur has roots in Preeceville

Meagan Barabash has always loved to dance and her passion has taken her to new heights. She never dreamed that in creating her own business, The Bravo Dance Company, that she would be noticed in the best way with being awarded the award for being Saskatchewan's top entrepreneur.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barabash is the daughter of Lawrence and Shelly Barabash of Preeceville.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The award was presented in Moose Jaw on April 30 and was the first time that it was handed out. Barabash was the overall winner. The competition was created through the Saskatchewan's Top Entrepreneur Facebook page and the What Women Want organization.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barabash was competing against 13 other individuals at the beginning of the process and through a progress of elimination, the field was brought down to nine contestants in the semi-finals.

In the finals there were five contestants left vying for the title. During the finals in Moose Jaw contestants were asked to pitch their businesses to the judges, answering questions at the completion.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Winning the top entrepreneur award comes with $15,000 in prizes all geared towards building her business.聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barabash said that many things have contributed to her success and the success of her business.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barabash has been dancing since she was five years-old and has never looked back. Her passion for dancing grew as she learned from multiple instructors who all helped create her into the dancer and entrepreneur she has become.

She graduated from Preeceville High School in 2012 and continued her education with attaining a bachelor of commerce degree with a major in human resources. She taught dance at Dancer's Edge in Saskatoon for three years while attaining her education. She also taught at Inspired School of Dance and at the Verabank for a short time prior to establishing her own business.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barabash and her fianc茅 moved to Martensville from Saskatoon and soon realized that there was no dance club in that community and no opportunity for the young in the community to be involved in dance.

The couple created The Bravo Dance Company in 2015 with hopes to provide a safe, supportive environment for all dancers to achieve their dreams while making friends.

"Our first year exceeded all our expectations with 160 dancers enrolled," said Barabash. "We expected maybe 40 dancers in the first year but reached that goal in the first 20 days of being open.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 聽"At Bravo Dance Company, we not only aim to provide an elite dance experience, but also to produce great people along the way, a supportive and encouraging environment, and limitless opportunities for our dancers," she said. "We are proud to offer fantastic instructors, fulfilling classes, and excellent customer service.

鈥淥n top of this, we are proud of our community impact,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e hold various initiatives designed to specifically impact the community, such as our food drives.

鈥淲e sponsored three children the chance to dance with us this year; we sponsored a number of Summer Dance Experience scholarships, and we provide a scholarship for a high school graduate in Saskatchewan based on his or her community Impact."

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The company outgrew its previous location and has found a new space that is five times the size, she said. It offers classes to children and adults.

Various genres of dance are taught including tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical, contemporary, fitness classes, and now Ukrainian. They also offer recreational and competitive classes.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Barabash has bright future plans of expanding her business in her new location which includes a trip to Disney World in 2018 for her dancers.
