The Preeceville and District Musher Rendezvous scheduled for February 3 to 5 will feature a wide variety of entertainment for all ages, according to organizers.

Discussion at an organizational meeting on January 3 featured numerous topics, said Brittany Halkyard, secretary of the Musher Rendezvous committee.

Construction of the multipurpose pad is scheduled to take place in the spring, Halkyard said. The basic preparations have been made and completion is expected in the spring.

Sponsorships are still coming in, she said, adding that persons, companies or groups wishing to sponsor the event are encouraged to contact a committee member.

Committee members are also selling tickets for the survivor sleigh that will be raffled over the musher weekend.

Preeceville businesses are invited to decorate their offices, windows and building exteriors for the Mushers Rendezvous, Halkyard said. On February 3 some mushers from out of town will tour the town to vote on the best decorations. The competition is between local businesses and promoters of the event.

It was reported that the trail preparations are underway but like in the past few years the organization is waiting for more snow to make a better trail.

The memory tree celebration was beautiful again this year, thanks to those who participated and purchased bulbs, she said. This fundraiser brought in around $500.

The recreation hockey group is planning to have a tournament the weekend of Mushers, she said.

Paper dogs are being sold at the schools again this year and prizes will be awarded for the individual who sells the most dogs as well as the class that has the highest sales.

There are still spots available in the talent show for entertainers.

The brochures and posters will be out soon with full details of the weekend’s events.

The committee members are encouraging individuals who are interested in volunteering for the event to contact any of the committee members, including: Allan or Coreen Bodnar, Brittany Halkyard, Darlene Walker, Jim Ward, Karen Maupin, Katherine Walker, Kim Murray, Meaghan Nelson, Rhonda or Kevin Cook, Shelby Cook and Taylor Thompson.
