The Preeceville Pats IP hockey team hosted a home tournament on January 7 that featured eight teams. Teams entered included the Kelvington Wheat Kings, Kamsack Flyers, Yorkton Tim Hortons Terriers, Yorkton Iced Capps, Swan River Squirts, Canora Cobras, Yorkton Double Doubles and Preeceville.

"The program has changed this year with the focus now shifting to more play time for each player," said Dean Serdachny, Preeceville coach. "Each team played three games with no official winner. The program is now geared towards increasing puck time, learning more skills on the offence and defense sides and for each player to have fun. The ice surface was divided into three areas that allowed more teams to play at the same time and shortened the physical skating time.â€

At the end of each game played there were two awards presented to players. A hustler award was given to a player who skated the hardest, while the digger award went to a player who worked the hardest during that game.

"In the next few months, the team will travel to Wadena, Kelvington, Canora, Foam Lake and Bredenbury for tournaments," said Serdachny. "They will also play during the Preeceville Minor Hockey Day in Preeceville on January 21 and at a home game in Sturgis against Norquay."
