聽 聽 聽The Preeceville and District Heritage Museum is getting ready to open for another busy season.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "We will officially open on May 24," said Agnes Murrin, president. "The public is welcome and we will be serving tea and coffee and other goodies.

鈥淭he theme of this year鈥檚 open house is Canada 150,鈥� Murrin said. 鈥淲e will also have our sign up honouring one of our founding members.

鈥淲e will also be having our annual general meeting on May 16 at the museum. Everyone is invited to attend. We are quite excited this year to have our full complement of 12 board members," she said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Other events that are planned for this year are: the second annual 1950s evening on June 23 on the museum parking lot. The annual chili and clay oven-baked bread day at the museum will be held July 12 as part of Old Home Week. Members plan to enter a float in the Canada 150 Parade.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 For Canada 150 the group is planning a small feature on the Co-op Creamery, Dmytriw鈥檚 General Store, the Grand Theater and possibly other touchstones of the community鈥檚 past as can be managed.

She said the group would appreciate hearing from persons with pictures and/or stories to share, Murrin said. Pictures will be copied and returned.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 As it is also the time of spring cleaning and re-organizing, the museum board reminds everyone that the group is always looking for artifacts that help display the history of Preeceville and District.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "We are looking for an old cash register for our old-time general store and any sports memorabilia from any sports teams of the area,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e are also requesting any readable old Preeceville papers as we are compiling them as a resource for any future research and history books.

鈥淲e are also looking for volunteers to help at the museum,鈥� she said, requesting persons who can help or who have anything to donate to contact Agnes Murrin or John Carlson.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he season hasn鈥檛 started and we already have had two exciting things happening,鈥� she said. The sign recognizing all the hard work of Mary Grimsrud is installed and the 鈥淢ary鈥檚 Corner鈥� sign looks great.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The other exciting thing was a visit to the museum of the great-grandaughter of Granny Preece, she said. Allane Preece and her husband, from Prince George wanted to see the Preece wall and tour the museum. Allane is the daughter of the late Kenny Preece and the granddaughter of Fred Preece and Hannah Berg.
