Preeceville air cadets host open house night

The Preeceville Harvard Air Cadets held an open house on October 11 when promoting the program was highlighted.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The Preeceville Harvard Air Cadets held an open house on October 11 when promoting the program was highlighted.

Prior to the open house, cadets from the program traveled to Preeceville, Sturgis and Norquay schools to make presentations featuring the program.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The open house portion was held at the Preeceville Community Legion Hall and featured activities surrounding cadet exercises. A survival scenario was set up to show what all is required to survive in the outdoors. New and potential cadets had the opportunity to try drill formations, shooting at a gun range, flying in a flight simulator and how to properly take care of a uniform and shoes.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A Powerpoint presentation played throughout the evening featured the cadets鈥 past activities.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 "This year we have 34 cadets registered," said Capt. Troy Rogowski.

It is very exciting to see so many new cadets, Rogowski said. 鈥淲e offer weekly drills combined with classroom time.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The cadet program continues to offer marksmanship with the addition of a biathlon exercise.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The air cadet program is open to youths between 12 and 18 years and there is no registration fee.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he purpose of cadets is to develop in youths the attributes of leadership and engage in active citizenship and physical fitness within an environment that stimulates an interest in the Canadian Forces,鈥 a release said.

The cadets are funded by the Department of National Defence, the Air Cadet League (a civilian non-profit organization), Navy League and the Army League. The motto of the air cadets is 鈥淟earn to Serve and Advance,鈥 said Rogowski.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Cadets are given the opportunity to travel, go to Camp Saskadet and do a variety of monthly activities. They also play a part in the community with their attendance and participation in the annual Remembrance Day Service.
