聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 With the Parkland Music Festival deadline looming organizers are looking for entries.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淒eadline for entries are January 31 and can be submitted to any member,鈥� said Nathan Seghers, organizer of the festival being held at Preeceville and Sturgis.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Town of Preeceville in conjunction with the Sturgis Composite High School are scheduled to host the festival from March 26 to March 31.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 There are many components to the festival that include the band and guitar section, Seghers said. The band and guitar section of the festival is a unique couple of days during the festival week. These couple of days at the music festival include a large number of different performances, which are very interesting to observe and listen to.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Throughout this time, the large ensemble bands perform, he said. Usually, there are four different bands that compete and show their musicality with a wide range of musical selections. At this time it really shows what the students have learned so far throughout the year.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 There are also individual performances on band instruments, which are the only time during the festival in which the music is learned within a school, not through private lessons like piano and voice.聽

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 Many students take time to learn the music outside of school, on their own and not with a private instructor, said Seghers. Guitar is also a prominent part of these days throughout festival.聽 Students who take private lessons on guitar perform solos from a variety of classical to popular music.聽

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淯sually the band and guitar portion of our festival incorporates our classroom music performances as well," he said. "You may be treated to some fun rhythmic games or a song accompanied by a guitar or ukulele.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淲e have also had groups perform music from other cultures on Orff instruments,鈥� he said, explaining that Orff is a developmental approach used in music education which combines music, movement, drama and speech into lessons and was inspired by composer Carl Orff (1895-1982) who created a style of teaching in which children learn by emulating everyday play. The ensemble usually consists of a small group of students who play xylophones, marimbas and other auxiliary percussion instruments together.鈥�

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The entry deadline for the festival is January 31.聽 Piano sessions will take place at Trinity United Church from March 26 to 28.Band sessions will take place at Grace United Church and Sturgis Composite High School from March 29 to 30.聽 Voice/speech arts will take place at Trinity United Church from March 30 to 31.聽
