Eaglestone Lodge, a personal care home located in Kamsack, has elected a new
Board Of Directors (BOD), according to a press release.
Taking over leadership of the home are executive committee members Colleen Pennell,
President; Dianne Smutt, vice-president, and Doug Elsasser, secretary. The trio was elected at the Eaglestone Lodge annual general meeting held February 24.
The new Eaglestone executive join Rural Municipality of Cote councillor Amanda Burback and
Town of Kamsack mayor Nancy Brunt, whose respective governments are shareholders in
Eaglestone Lodge, a not-for-profit corporation licenced by the government of Saskatchewan.
Burback and Brunt had taken over as interim leaders and licensees following the resignation of
the previous BOD鈥檚 executive.
鈥淲e thank the former Eaglestone executive for their service under very difficult circumstances, 鈥�
said incoming president Pennell.
Members-At-Large of the previous Eaglestone BOD, Jack Koreluik, Michelle Irvine, and Debbie
Cuervo, have agreed to continue their work in the interests of the personal care home鈥檚 residents
and suite dwellers. Koreluik presently serves on the Audit and Human Resources committees.
Irvine sits on the Audit committee and Cuervo has committee duties for fundraising and
building maintenance. Smutt serves on the fundraising and Canadian Union of Public
Employees (CUPE) negotiating committees.
The newly elected Eaglestone BOD has been working closely with the personal care home鈥檚
operations manager, Cindy Hudye, and the facility鈥檚 charge nurse, Tracy Gulka, together
known as the management team.
Eaglestone Lodge suffered an outbreak of the COVID-19 virus near the end of December.
The outbreak was declared officially over by Public Health on February 8. Since then, all
residents have received two doses of vaccine.
According to charge nurse Gulka, the COVID-19 Pandemic and imposed restrictions have been
鈥渕entally, physically and emotionally exhausting for (Eaglestone Lodge) staff and residents.鈥� The Eaglestone Lodge BOD, management team and staff are looking forward to a day when visitation of residents by their supporters and family members can safely resume.
In the meantime, the BOD and management team will prepare and submit an annual relicensing
application to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, work to restore Eaglestone鈥檚 financial
stability, and strive to provide quality personal care to its valued elderly residents, the release concluded.
