With 157 plates sold, the number of persons attending the CIBC Run for the Cure chili lunch fundraiser was slightly down but the addition of a silent auction made the total donation a little bigger this year, said Patty Kolodziejski, the branch spokesperson for the effort.
The silent auction was based on three prints which were donated and it raised more than $400 by it self, she said. In addition to the chili lunch, other in-house fundraisers included: dress down Fridays ($2 per person per Friday), tea cup sales and the used book sales.
All together, the branch donation was $2,432, Kolodziejski said. There was another $130 that was donated specifically for the run. The used book stories is an interesting story in itself, she said. It was started five years ago with the simple idea of collecting donated books and selling them at very reasonable prices, usually 25 cents to a high of $5.
In those five years, more than $4,540 has been raised. The book donations are accepted all year round and the sale starts in spring and lasts until the weekend of the run. During this final week, the books are sold for $1 per bagful.
The official Run for the Cure event will be held October 4 across the country. In Saskatchewan, there are runs in Regina and Saskatoon.
