Mighty Drunks win annual Flames recreational hockey tournament

A team called the Mighty Drunks won the annual Canora Flames recreational hockey tournament on January 23-24 at the Canora Civic Centre.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Members of the team were: Dustin Brass, Ted Bradley, Ryan Coleman, Kylee Toffan, Chad Zavislak, Blair Brass, Ryan Kitchen, Terry Wilson, Brandon Gress, Jade Dennis, Tyler Ostoforoff, Justin Hladun, Skyler Hladun and Joe Potrois.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Winning the B-side championship in the four-team tournament was The Rippin鈥 Rangers. Members of the team were: Mike Fetchuk, Stu Ritchie, Dale Polischuk, Delmar Zwirsky, Jordan Chernoff, Tyler Lorenzo, Brad Rumboldt, Parker Rice, Grant Dutchak, Kevin Borden, Jim Prokopiuk, Tyler Prokopiuk and Mike Thompson.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Hardwater All Stars placed third and like the first two teams, had a record of two wins and one loss during the tournament. Members of the team are: Colin Kitchen, Kyle Tourangeau, Matt Nehaj, Robin Ludba, Burton Jones, Brendon Skibinsky, Jarod Butler, Ryan Gareau, Darren Spelay, Dustin Neilson, Rylan Palchewich, Curtis Baillie, Kevin Kitchen and Bryan Harder.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The team in the last place was Troff's 2016 All-Stars which had a record of no wins and three losses. Members of the team were: Kent Gress, Kelly McTavish, Dallon TerMaat, Darren Popowich, James Trofimenkoff, Josh Swain, Ryan Currah, Stan Shymanski, Vern Schick, Bryce McCormick, Carson Dennis, Sean Kolodziejski, Austin Gress, Casey Mydonick and Devin Oliver.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Curtis Baillie, president of the Canora Flames organization, presented three individual awards when the tournament concluded. Rylan Palchewich was named the best goalie; Justin Hladun, best defenceman; and Shyler Hladun, best forward.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Though this is a local tournament, it does draw players from across the province and even from neighbouring provinces, said James Trofimenkoff, the tournament organizer.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It was nice to have sponsorship from the Gateway Co-op to make the tournament more inviting, he said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎lso a big thanks to Bob Psyemny for being the clock worker for the whole tournament,鈥 Trofimenkoff said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 He also thanked Mike and Candace Doogan in the kitchen for supplying the players with a great menu for the weekend.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭here was good feedback from the players on a great tournament,鈥 he said. 鈥淎ll the players enjoyed themselves, especially those players who played their first competitive hockey games.鈥
