Meet-and-greet session held to welcome new physicians to Preeceville

Residents had the opportunity to welcome, meet and greet the new doctors recently acquired for the Preeceville Medical Clinic. The meet-and-greet session was held at the Preeceville Legion Hall on October 17.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The medical staff includes Dawn Kennedy, nurse practitioner; Dr. Catharina Meyer, Dr. Morteza Shahrestani and Dr. Shamsher Singh.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Mayor Garth Harris extended a welcome from the Town of Preeceville to the doctors. Stacey Strykowski had the privilege of introducing the physicians and their families to a packed hall of citizens.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e have come a long way since May," said Strykowski. "We now have four practitioners. We still have a long way to go to get back our emergency care but we are getting there.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Strykowski expressed appreciation to the Preeceville Health Action Committee and to Dawn Kennedy and Dr. Shahrestani for supporting Preeceville in a time of need.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Sunrise Health Region members in attendance were Roberta Wiwcahruk,vice-president of Integrated Health Services; Monica Dutchak, Preeceville and District Health Centre manager; Jackie Holzmann, Director of Integrated Health Services; and Mary Jean-Vogel, Primary Health Care Manager.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淚 am very happy to be here and, on behalf of Sunrise Health Region, honoured to welcome the two new physicians to Preeceville, Dr. Meyer and Dr. Singh,鈥 said Roberta Wiwcharuk.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淚 also want to acknowledge Dr. Shahrestani who has been here since February and to Dawn Kennedy, nurse practitioner, who has been providing services since May 2007.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The physician recruitment process, from the initial contact with a physician to placement in a community is a very involved and often lengthy process, Wiwcharuk said. 鈥淢any of our physicians are required to complete training, clinical assessments and field placements, as per the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA).

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淭he region appreciates the collaboration we received from the physicians throughout the recruitment journey,鈥 she said. 鈥淵our dedication to the Sunrise Health Region and to the community of Preeceville is appreciated.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淚 want to extend a thank you to Sunrise Health Region Medical Services Team and the primary health care team for the successful recruitment of three physicians for Preeceville in the last nine months.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淚 want to thank the regional locum physician and other physicians in our region for providing coverage until we were able to fill the physician vacancies,鈥 she said, extending thanks to Monica Dutchak, Health Services Manager, and the staff at the Preeceville and District Health Centre 鈥渇or the quality care and services they provide every day.鈥

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 鈥淥nce again, welcome to Dr. Meyer, Dr. Singh and Dr. Shahrefstani,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e hope you and your families enjoy the community of Preeceville and the surrounding area.
