SASKATOON –A man accused of sexual exploitation made his first court appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Thursday.
The 35-year-old man was arrested by the Saskatoon Police Sex Crime Unit and charged with two counts of sexual exploitation while being in a position of trust or authority. Saskatoon Police say that the victim and the accused were known to each other through their affiliation with a Saskatoon faith based organization.
The charges stem from a December 2019 report made to the Saskatoon Police Service regarding allegations of a historical sexual assault. One of the complaints involved a woman who was 16 at the time of the offense.
The man was remanded in custody at his Nov. 17 appearance and appears again on Nov. 19 for a show cause hearing.
Sexual Abuse and Exploitation occurs when a child has been or is likely to be exposed to harmful interaction for a sexual purpose by a parent, caretaker, or any person in a position of trust or authority over the young person.
If you believe a child may have been sexually abused or exploited, the Saskatoon Police Service reminds the public, you have a legal responsibility to immediately report your concerns to your nearest Ministry of Social Services office, First Nations Child and Family Services Agency, RCMP or the Saskatoon Police at 306-975-8300.
