PREECEVILLE - Nathan Seghers of Sturgis travelled to Saskatoon on Nov. 1, to receive the CMEA/ACME Builders Award for 2024.

The Canadian Music Educators Association/Acme Builders Award recognizes individuals who have significantly advanced music education across Canada through outstanding community building and collaboration. This prestigious award celebrates those whose leadership and commitment have fostered a strong sense of unity among music educators, enriching the educational landscape and ensuring that music education continues to thrive.

Recipients of this award have made a lasting impact through their dedication to collaboration, empowering educators and students, and promoting the importance of music in communities across Canada. Sehgers is the music director for the Preeceville, Sturgis, Canora, Norquay and Invermay Schools

Growing up in Prince Albert, Seghers developed a deep passion for music, playing in band throughout his school years. This early love for music set the foundation for his future career as an educator and advocate for music programs in Saskatchewan.

He has spent his entire career (so far) fostering musical talent in the communities of Sturgis, Preeceville, Canora, Invermay, and Norquay, where he serves as an itinerant Grade 5-12 band teacher.

Seghers’ leadership extends beyond the classroom. For over a decade, he has been an active member of the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association (SMEA), serving in key roles. His efforts have shaped the future of music education in the province, particularly through his work on the Saskatchewan Music Conference (SMC) Planning Committee, guiding educators and students through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and collaborating to create and develop various Saskatchewan Teachers Federation initiated projects.
