A Kamsack couple who have been involved in the food industry for more than 20 years celebrated the opening of their own restaurant last week.
Craig and Lisa Kosokowsky began serving customers at their Iron Grill restaurant at 11 a.m. on August 10.
Located on mainstreet near the intersection with Queen Elizabeth Boulevard, the Iron Grill is a 2,000-square-foot building located on two lots.
鈥淲e鈥檙e a restaurant that specializes in steaks,鈥 Kosokowsky said during an interview in the 1,600 squarefoot room containing new tables and chairs for the seating of 70 customers.
鈥淲e can seat about 80 customers,鈥 he said, adding that the restaurant will be featuring lunch specials of homestyle meals.
鈥淓very Wednesday, we鈥檒l be having a steak sandwich lunch special,鈥 he said. 鈥淥n Friday nights we鈥檒l be featuring steaks and prime rib.鈥
鈥淲e鈥檙e starting with a large menu to try things out, and as time goes on, we may decide to modify it,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e make and serve 12-inch and 15-inch homemade pizzas.鈥
A licensed premises, the restaurant carries wines and beers and among the mixed drinks from the bar are Bellinis and strawberry Coladas. A native of Humboldt,
Kosokowsky came to Kamsack to work at the Woodlander Hotel in 1992 and six years later married Lisa Butler, who has also worked at the Woodlander. The couple has five children aged four years to 27 years.
In 2011, Kosokowsky began Pro Creations Catering, working out of the kitchen at the Ukrainian Catholic Hall, but now with the opening of the restaurant, the catering business will be conducted from it.
The business employs about eight to 10 persons, including Craig and Lisa and at least one other cook.
A licensed chef, Kosokowsky had attended culinary school in Prince Albert for a year in 1989, and then received his Red Seal chef鈥檚 accreditation in 2006.
鈥淲ith the extra property, we鈥檙e thinking about adding an outdoor gazebo or patio next year,鈥 he said. The business is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and will stay open to 11 p.m. on Fridays. Plans are to be open Saturday evenings beginning in the fall. The restaurant will be closed on Sundays.
