This week, we are happy to report that Edith Simle is feeling much better after a bout in the hospital this fall. She has moved from the Maple Street Manor in Esterhazy across the tracks to the Centennial Special Care Home where she has nicely settled in. Edith looks forward to company and a few friends and former neighbours have called on her recently reporting having had a good chat and at least one hearty laugh with her. We hope you have a great Christmas, Edith, and a Happy New Year from everyone in Dubuc.
The December Potluck supper was well attended. There was a table laden with a lovely assortment of food including turkey, of course, and then another table full of desserts and Christmas baking. Janet Sievers won the 50/50 draw, Mary Nagy won the snowman coasters and Nina Moller took home the Happy Holidays sign that were given away as door prizes. The club has been very pleased with the support of community businesses that have helped supply door prizes and Santa gifts for their gatherings. Winners were drawn from the Raffle Squares, that were sold at the hut and also by the staff at the BS Bar across the street, to raise operating funds for "The Hut": Car survival kit donated by Sharon Clark won by Jean Kulcsar of Yorkton; Big Way gift basket, Larry Duchek, Dubuc; Fifth Ave necklace and earrings donated by Diane Horachek, Joan Kerr, Dubuc; $25 Flair gift certificate, Sally Spolger, Dubuc.
The Memorial Hall was a hub of activity on Friday evening, Dec. 14. Another fantastic potluck supper followed by a concert put on by 15 local youngsters ranging in age from 4 to 17. The audience of proud parents, grandparents and friends enjoyed the poems, jokes, songs and acting that the children had all arranged for everyone. During the evening, 23 donated prizes were raffled, a 50/50 ticket draw was made and 3 donated door prizes were given away. Sponsors were advertised on all the prizes. The Yorkton Co-op and the Cornerstone Credit Union each gave generous cash donations of $200 towards the upkeep of the hall. Santa Claus arrived as the children's concert ended and he presented candy bags and oranges to the children. The evening is put on by the Dubuc Recreation Association as a fundraiser for the operation of our community hall. It was a wonderful intergenerational gathering much fun was had by all who attended.
