Leo Patrice Tremblay, born March 1, 1918 in the Qu'appelle Valley Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Dubuc, the sixth of nine children, passed away Nov. 26, 2012 in Smithers, BC. Leo grew up on a farm and attended a one-room school house. Life wasn't always easy: his father died when he was seven, the depression arrived when he was eleven and war broke out when he was 21. Following three years of service overseas, he returned home, married in 1955 and soon after, moved to Kitimat, BC for 22 years, where they raised a family of three children. After the kids were grown, Leo and Joyce returned home to the Qu'appelle Valley for the next 22 years and in 1999, they moved to Smithers, BC to be nearer their family. Leo was a welder/metal fabricator by trade, an avid reader; loved throwing horseshoes, playing cards, travelling, and camping. He will be remembered by the community as hard working, generous, and optimistic. Sympathy to the family he loved, his wife of 62 years, Joyce (Loveridge); sons, Harvey (Corry) and David (Karin); daughter, Janice; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Norman Johnson bought coffee and brought Nanaimo bars to treat everyone at Saturday morning coffee row on the occasion of his "big" birthday. He's officially on Harper's payroll! Congratulations, Norm, hope you have a happy, healthy year ahead. Out of town visitors attending were Margie and Ed Oldham from Regina. They also brought tasty snacks to share with everyone. Thanks a bunch from the gang - free coffee, cake, cracker snacks - great way to start the new year.
The January Community Potluck supper held at the Hut was well attended. Lots of delicious food, fun and fellowship was enjoyed by all in attendance. His honor, the Mayor Marv Horachek won the door prize and the 50/50 was won by lucky Melba McAlpine.
The potlucks are held on the second Wednesday of every month and are open to anyone that would like to attend. Consider this your invitation. See you there on Feb. 13.
