Very late birthday wishes to Ted Bateman who celebrated his 75th birthday in August. Ted was born, attended school and farmed for many years in the Farrell School District North West of Dubuc. Ted and his wife, Ellen, have retired and currently reside in Grayson. Friends, Peter and Audrey Nielsen and Donald and Glenda Bell, enjoyed a lovely birthday supper with the Batemans. They especially enjoyed renewing acquaintances with their children, James (Nicole) Bateman from Shaunavon and Bonnie (Kevin) James of Virden, MB and their families.
Peter and Audrey Nielsen of Dubuc and Bob and Louise (Nielsen) Hershmiller of Waldron have just returned from a wonderful trip to Alaska. The trip was sponsored by the Shriners and proceeds from this trip went towards their hospital in Montreal.
"We flew into Anchorage from Regina, spent three days immersed in the autumn beauty of Denali National Park, travelling by domed railcar and then by bus on the narrow, winding mountain roadwayswe were treated to some of the most spectacular landscapes one could wish to see. We viewed Mount McKinley (known as Mount Denali to the locals) and all kinds of wild animals including grizzlies, caribou and moose. We boarded the Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas in Seward and cruised for seven days, returning to Vancouver. On the cruise, we viewed the Hubbard Glaciers which are a renowned tourist attraction of the area and we explored the beauty and culture in the ports of Juneau, Skagway, Icy Straits and Ketchian. It was truly a wonderful tour!"
Get well wishes go out to Maureen Toth, Lucy Issel a former resident now living in Yorkton, and Ron McAlpine who have all had some surgery. Ron and Maureen are recuperating nicely at home, while Lucy was still in the Yorkton Hospital at time of writing, we hope she will be home and feeling much better by the time this is in print.
Lois (Talbot) Hurren from Guelph, Ontario has been visiting with cousins in the area. Lois stayed with Velma (Talbot) and Raymond Fuchs at Grayson and motored to Dubuc where they attended coffee row a couple times. Lois spent some time with Jim and Vivian Talbot who travelled to Esterhazy to visit Jim's parents, John and Judy Talbot, and his sister, Jeanette and Ed Boyechko. During Lois' stay she was able to see the mine sites and thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the Potash Interpretative Centre at Esterhazy with John Nightingale as a very knowledgeable volunteer guide. She was able to track down some family history at the Gerald and Dubuc village cemeteries and toured the countryside to see where her uncles, Arthur (Jessie) and Fred (Teeny) Talbot, homesteaded.
There was a very small gathering at the monthly birthday party on Wednesday. There were no birthday celebrants present but a great lunch and fellowship was enjoyed by those in attendance.
