Dawn Walker charged by Saskatoon police, U.S. Homeland Security

Son was reunited with a legal guardian on Aug. 5 and returned to Canada on Aug. 7.

SASKATOON — Dawn Walker, recently found in Oregon with her son, has been charged after a missing persons investigation that involved authorities in both Canada and the United States.

As a result of investigation to date, said the Saskatoon Police Service Monday. and in consultation with the Crown, they have charged Dawn Marie Walker with abduction in contravention of a custody order and public mischief. Additional charges are being considered as the criminal investigation progresses.

As a result of investigation to date, the United States Department of Homeland Security has charged Dawn Marie Walker with the following United States offences:

Title 18 U.S. Code - 1028A (a) (1) provides that it is a felony offense for a person, during and in relation to any felony violation enumerated in subsection c, to-wit: false statements in the use of a passport, to knowingly possess or use, without lawful authority, a means of identification of another person.

Title 18 U.S. Code – 1028 (a) (6) provides that it is a misdemeanor offense for a person to possess an identification document which is stolen or produced without lawful authority knowing that such document was stolen or produced without such authority.

SPS says Dawn Marie Walker remains in custody in the United States where she will be making her first court appearance today. Investigators with the Saskatoon Police Service are consulting the provincial Crown to arrange for her future extradition to Canada.

Her son was reunited with a legal guardian on Aug. 5 and returned to Canada on Aug. 7.
