The Preeceville Hospital Building Fund committee, coordinated by Jim Ward, made the decision to seed and harvest a crop of oats to help cover the $120,000 shortfall of the of what is left owing on the Preeceville Hospital Building Fund. The harvest was completed in the afternoon of October 16 with two combines working side by side to get the grain in the bin.

Maple Farm Equipment supplied a T670 John Deere combine and Rocky Mountain Equipment provided a 7230 Case combine. The operators were Conrad Peterson, Wes Jaeb, Evan Steppan and Greg Zuk. Jim Ward provided the use of a grain truck, Brian Myhr donated the use of his auger and Gateway Coop donated the temporary use of the grain bin.

鈥淭he crop fundraiser was a great way to help net a profit to help cover the shortfall,鈥 said Ward. 鈥淚 believe the oats that came off ran about 3,000 bushels. It is unsure of how it graded and how much we will profit from the crop but we are optimist that it will be a good profit. The community support has been huge with many individuals stepping up to either donate or help out.鈥

The crop of oats was seeded this spring on 50 acres on the east side of the Town of Preeceville. Maple Farm Equipment was responsible for the seeding, spraying and swathing. The Town of Preeceville purchased the spray with Thorson Brothers donating the oats that was seeded. Corwin Tonn donated the use of the truck to haul the fertilizer that was supplied by CPS.
