Children are invited to celebrate the power of imagination at the Preeceville Public Library this summer with the .
Children from Kindergarten to Grade 5 can have fun by setting a goal for the number of books they plan to read over the summer, while getting involved in programs, activities and contests at the library.
The Preeceville Public Library will be hosting a summer reading program that features games, crafts and stories related to the program. The program is a huge hit and there are numerous children each day, said information from the Preeceville Library. Children are able to come into the library, pick out a book and keep a log of their reading progress throughout the summer.
The TD Bank Group, the Toronto Public Library and Library and Archives Canada sponsored the TD Summer Reading Club for Canadian children across the nation in both English and French, the information said. It also operates in association with the CNIB to allow children with vision loss to participate. More than 580,000 children participate in the TD Summer Reading Club, collectively reading over 2.4 million books each summer.
The program is supported with children鈥檚 activity kits and posters, and also has a robust online presence, it said. TD is encouraging parents and children to explore new places near and far, meet new friends and try new things through the magic of books.聽 With more than 1,900 local public libraries participating in the program, over 550,000 children are expected to participate in the program.
Reading Club has been successful in inspiring children to spend more time reading books and visiting their local libraries, it said. During the summer of 2010, more than half a million children participated in programs offered at their local libraries and read more than two million books!

The goals of the TD Summer Reading Club are to encourage and strengthen the habit of reading for pleasure to create life-long learners, to increase children's reading skills and reduce summer learning loss, it said.
