Awards and scholarships presented at graduation exercises

Sheila Klebeck and Arlene Prestie introduced the graduates as they were escorted by their parents into the arena.

Brittany Vewchar sang O Canada, accompanied by graduates and audience members.

Graduate Brittany Kashuba gave the valedictory address. Kashuba also gave the SRC presentation accepted by Jake Huska.

Graduate Nicole Bileski introduced the guest speaker Shelby Cook.

Awards and scholarships

The awards and scholarships were introduced by Arlene Prestie.

Graduation day will be remembered as one of the most important in the lives of these young people who we celebrate this evening. This ceremony gives us the collective opportunity to fondly share some of the students鈥 school experiences, to offer wishes for future success and happiness, and to recognize their academic excellence and community spirit.聽

The recipients of the scholarships and awards were selected based on the applications that the students submitted, and the criteria outlined by the scholarship sponsors.

Graduate Alexis Bodnar received the Access Communications $200 scholarship.

Graduate Josiah Sorgen received the Canora and Sturgis detachment of the RCMP $300 scholarship which was presented by Constable Manny Borges.

Graduate Nolan Walker received the Endeavour Home and School scholarship. Walker also received the Bill Simpson Memorial Bursary.

鈥淏ill Simpson loved his family and would do anything for his friends. He believed in a strong work ethic and was knowledgeable in many different trades and skills, having the ability to fix and alter things. Bill had many passions some of which were guns, bikes, hunting and gardening. As a man with so many strengths and virtues, the most important one was his amazing heart,鈥 it was said.

Graduate Jess Olson was presented the Ed Zimmer Memorial Scholarship for $250. The scholarship was established in memory of a man who was special to the Tonn family.

鈥淓d Zimmer is remembered for his love of sports, especially curling and ball. He valued determination, dedication to family and friends and always strived for one鈥檚 full potential. He was proud to see someone rise above personal challenges,鈥 it was said.

Olson also received the Preeceville Lionesses鈥 most improved student award and the practical and applied arts subject medal.

Graduate Tamsin Vallevand received the Crossroads Credit Union scholarship for $500. She also received the Community Impact Scholarship, which recognizes a student who, in addition to academic and extra-curricular success, has impacted the community either locally or globally. She also received the visual arts subject medal.

Graduate Kane Charnstrom received the Gateway Co-op scholarship for $200.

Graduate Corianne Metherell received the Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary $200 scholarship and the Preeceville Figure Skating Award. Metherell also received the Preeceville Ambulance award of merit for $500.

Graduate Brittany Kashuba received the Preeceville Firefighters scholarship for $100.

Graduate Nicholas Lingl was presented the Preeceville School Community Council bursary and the band subject award.

Graduate Taylor Belesky received the Preeceville Home Hardware scholarship.

Graduate Josiah Sorgen won the math, science and english subject medals.

Graduate Austin Stinson was awarded the physical education subject medal.

Graduate Carter Desroches won the social studies subject medal.

The Governor General鈥檚 Medal for General Proficiency was awarded to 2015 graduate Jessylee Wionzek. She also received the W.H. Downs Memorial Scholarship. Quinton Robertson, acting director of education made the presentation.

Doug King, principal, Kent Seerey, vice-principal and Robertson, presented graduates with scrolls.

A slide show presentation concluded the program followed by a grand march by graduates and their escorts.
