YORKTON - The 65th Threshermen’s Show and Seniors’ Festival is set for this weekend in Yorkton.

The Western Development Museum - Yorkton, the Yorkton Threshermen’s Club, the East Central Seniors’, and the Yorkton Antique Auto Association have joined together to hold what is being billed as ‘an old-fashioned celebration’ on Aug. 5 and 6.

“Get a glimpse of Saskatchewan’s heritage through the operation of vintage equipment and the re-enactment of methods and techniques from the past,” suggests a WDM release.

The Show and Festival’s popularity stems from its blend of traditional skills with the spirit and diversity of Saskatchewan people.

“Settler skills like sawmilling, rope making, blacksmithing, grain grinding and rolled oats milling will be demonstrated, noted the release.

Antique chainsaw demonstrations as well as a chainsaw carver will see wood chips flying with their amazing skills.

Threshing demonstrations using both steam-powered and gas-powered engines give you an idea of the work put into harvest during the early 1900s.

Learn how settlers turned cream into butter and taste fresh baked bread from an outdoor clay oven.

Watch the York Colony Quilters Guild at work and learn a bit more about the past with guest exhibitors including the Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society, Yorkton Genealogical Society, and JAKz Toys.

“If it’s the spirit of competition that attracts you, you’ll want to participate in the stooking competition,” continued the release.

For the antique buff there’s Antique Car and Tractor Shows.

Other highlights include the Story of Harvest, Plowing Demonstration, and a special exhibit featuring Ertl, Fordson & Ford-Ferguson.

What would an old-time get-together be without music?

Enjoy live entertainment on the outdoor bandstand.

For kids, there will be horse-drawn rides, miniature airplane rides, and the ever-popular farm animal display.

Enjoy delicious food from the concession all weekend long which will also feature a hearty pancake breakfast on Sunday morning.
