4-H club members participate in district speaking competition

A total of 22 4-H club members participated in the District 18/19 4-H public speaking competition that was held March 19 at the Canora composite School.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 A total of 22 4-H club members participated in the District 18/19 4-H public speaking competition that was held March 19 at the Canora composite School.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Bev Spearman, general leader of the host Canora Homecraft 4-H club, was the emcee for the event, while judging were: Betty Tomilin of Buchanan, Eric Sweeney of Canora, Linda Osachoff of Canora and Morley Leung of Buchanan. The timekeeper was Burton O鈥橲oup of The Key First Nation.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the Cloverbuds category, Paisley Wolkowsky of the Good Spirit club placed first with a speech entitled 鈥淕ood Spirit,鈥 while Sydney Kolosk of the Assiniboine Beef and Multi club placed second with 鈥淢y Dogs.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the junior category, Jessee Kopelchuk of Good Spirit placed first with 鈥淢y Favourite Singer,鈥 while Ashlyn Olson of the Tail Twisters club placed second with 鈥淪wimming with Dolphins.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Jessa Fox of the Sheho Beef club placed first in the intermediate category, while Caitlyn Fox of the same club, placed second with 鈥淧hilosophers.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Fayth Stolzfus of the Tail Twisters placed first in the senior category with a speech entitled 鈥淎merican Mustang.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Donations were made to the club to help with the costs incurred by holding the event, said Spearman. They included the Crossroads Credit Union, Snow goose Distillery, Gateway Co-op and Cargill.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The first-place winners from the district competition have qualified to advance to the northeast regional competition being held in Kelvington on April 9.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淕ood luck to all the participants from this region,鈥 Spearman said.
