It won鈥檛 be the traditional summer fair, but the Yorkton Exhibition Association has announced a fun weekend for mid July.听
The YEA will be hosting the聽Eastern Professional Chariot and Chuckwagon Association聽Chariot & Chuckwagon races on the new聽Legacy Co-op聽Grandstand July 16-18.听
鈥淣ormally we gave chariot and chuckwagon races in conjunction with our Yorkton Exhibition Association鈥檚 annual summer fair,鈥� explained spokesperson Barb Woytas.听
This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions still being in place when the fair needed to book attractions the YEA cancelled the fair some time ago.听
But now that COVID restrictions are coming off Woytas said when they had an opportunity to host a race weekend they jumped聽on it.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 just fantastic this weekend came available to us,鈥� she said. 鈥淎nd, we鈥檙e doubly excited to do it on our brand new Legacy Co-op grandstand.鈥澛�
With the races booked as a foundation for a weekend of fun, Woytas said the Association has some added features already in place, starting with a 鈥楾aste of the Fair鈥� food truck event. She said they already have half a dozen trucks booked to participate, and expect up to 10 by the event weekend.听
The food trucks will be at the YEA grounds starting July 15 through the 18th.听
鈥淪o you can come down and get your favourite fair food and not miss out on that part of the fair that everybody loves,鈥� said Woytas.听
On Friday evening, July 16, Lenny and the Gypsies will also be performing after the races are finished, offering an outdoor cabaret to go along with a beer garden.听
鈥淚t will be more of an event to socialize and get together,鈥� said Woytas.听
While not a full fair, Woytas said the YEA is just happy to be back providing entertainment to the city.听
鈥淲e鈥檙e just looking forward to bringing everybody back together,鈥� she said, adding the YEA motto is 鈥楤ringing Friends & Neighbours Together鈥�.
