Wellness nurse Susan Petracek of Esterhazy was in attendance at Dubuc's Wellness Clinic held April 14 in the Friendship Club Hut monitoring the wellness needs for the seniors.
Vivian Talbot accompanied her grandchildren Riley and Ashalee Talbot to Regina to attend a birthday party for Hudson Andersen and visiting with parents Mervin and Dawn Andersen and Kareena. They also visited with Pat and Dayna Markwart, Colton and Jayme, returning home the same day.
Mary Ramstead, a well loved and respected lady of our community celebrated at two 90th birthday parties. On April 23 the actual birthday for relatives and neighbours called at the Prairie Manor and everyone spent a lovely afternoon visiting and reminiscing during a lovely lunch with refreshments and a decorated birthday cake. Her only daughter Ivy and Barry Baldrey of Prince Albert, and nephew Gordon and Darlin Ramstead of La Pas arrived in time to join the party. Next day Ivy and Barry escorted Mary to the Friendship Club Hut, a complete surprise, and a Hut full of relatives and friends, all seated at tables, greeted them "With she's a jolly good fellow". Mary was speechless, but all smiles to see so many assembled guests. Emcee Linda Baldry welcomed everyone and read greetings from several dignitaries who had sent special congratulations for this gala occasion.
There were several other readings and personal attributes given before a scrumptious variety of lunch and refreshments were served. Everyone sang "happy birthday" and a large birthday cake was served. Mary humbly expressed her appreciation in well chosen words straight from the heart and how very much she enjoyed seeing so many present, that it indeed was a wonderful surprise.
In attendance was Mary's grandson Doug, Jill and baby Rachel of Medicine Hat, AB and close friend Linda Unger from Regina. Many neices and nephews, some born in Dubuc area and others whose parents lived in rural Dubuc were guests from Rosemont, Minnesota USA; Moosejaw; Rama, Broadview, Foam Lake, Wynyard, Brandon, Yorkton, Melville.
Linda, on behalf of her mother, gave appreciation to all who helped with the lunch and clean up.
Just for the record the Hut was a busy place last weekend with coffee row Saturday morning, a birthday party in the afternoon, and Dubuc Worship center served a noon luncheon after church the next day. So there was a triple clean up and preparations for our local gals.
Bev and Keith Kraft of Lloydminster visited her aunt Jessie Stokes and cousins Glenda and Don Bell, Jacqui and Darrell Bell, Logan and Clay April 23 and 24.
Coffee row had a good turn out April 27 and live flowers greeted everyone courtesy of Mary Ramstead's birthday party. A "thinking of You: card was signed by everyone for John Talbot in Respite at the Centennial Care Home.
On Thursday., April 22, Glenda Bell attended the launch of Kathleen Gibson's latest book "Practise by Practise" the Art of everyday faith. The new book will contain the first year writings of Kathleen's column "Sunny Side up" as was printed in Yorkton This Week since 2001.
Kathleen is also the author of "West Nile Diary", the experiences of her husband referred to as the preacher and the mosquitoes being referred to as the pirates. Don and Rich Gibson spent the same winter at the Wascana Rehab. Center in Regina. During the evening Kathleen read selections from her new book and enjoyable music was provided by Nathan Nasby (formerly from Dubuc). The Ebenezer Men's Choir, a local pianist, and Amanda Buhler, daughter of Kathleen and Pastor Rich Gibson.
