MADD Canada is encouraging everyone to protect themselves and each other from impaired driving this summer.
"Holiday celebrations, vacations, cottage trips and long weekends all make for a great summer," said MADD Canada National President Margaret Miller. "Unfortunately, they can also lead to devastating results if someone makes the wrong choice and gets behind the wheel while impaired."
MADD Canada is asking everyone to plan ahead for a safe and sober ride home from summer activities. Arrange a designated driver, take public transit, call a taxi or just stay overnight.
"We hope everyone enjoys their summer fun with family and friends," Mrs. Miller said, "but please don't drive while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, or accept a ride from someone who is impaired. Whether you're on the roads, the trails or the waterways, always make responsible choices."
Every day in Canada, an average of 4 people are killed and 200 are injured in impaired driving crashes. The summer months and long weekends are a particularly dangerous time for impaired driving. MADD Canada and its sponsors, including Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, are asking all Canadians to do their part to prevent impaired driving this summer season.

"Keeping our communities across Canada safe is a priority for Allstate, and making the decision not to drink and drive is the right one."
MADD Canada is also reminding everyone about the important role they can play in helping police take impaired drivers off the road. As part of our Campaign 911 program, we are encouraging the public to call 911 if they see a driver they suspect is impaired. Each call could take a dangerous driver off the road and avert a tragedy.
