Asphalt tender accepted

Yorkton Council has accepted the only tender it received for the City's 2010 asphalt program.

Yorkton Council has accepted the only tender it received for the City's 2010 asphalt program.

"Fedorowich Construction was the only contractor to provide a bid to complete the work for this year," explained Fran Brimacombe, manager of engineering with the City.

Brimacombe said the City is in a position where work needs to be carried out this year.

"The City has committed to lot purchasers to provide asphalt paving for the lots in Riverside Meadows - Phase I and some on Ball Road this year. Paving will also be done in the Yellowhead Commercial Area where the City had poured curbs last year" he said.

"The Public Works Department has an asphalt recap program requiring approximately 2,175 tonnes which will resurface 1,600 meters or one mile streets."

The recommendation of City Administration was "to proceed with awarding the contract for the 2010 Asphalt Program to Fedorowich Construction Limited for the total bid price of $760,113.38 including G.S.T.," said Brimacombe.

Councillor Les Arnelien asked whether the tender price was in-line with previous years?Brimacombe said the price of $104.50 per tonne, was "a little less" than the $112 per tonne paid in 2008 for similar asphalt work.

The tender was passed unanimously by Council at its regular meeting Monday.
