KAMSACK — Two Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League teams are going off the beaten path to face off against one another at the Broda Sportsplex.

The Yorkton Terriers will play against the Melfort Mustangs at the Kamsack arena on Saturday, Oct. 28. Doors open at 6 p.m. and faceoff is at 7 p.m.

Kamsack Minor Hockey is organizing the game. Jared Ruf, the association’s president, said the idea came about while Yorkton Terriers assistant coach Zach Rakochy was in Kamsack.

“He was working with our goalies last year and had mentioned that these neutral site games happen in smaller towns and asked if we may be interested in doing something like that. We pursued it and we came to an agreement with the Terriers to bring one into Kamsack,” he said.

“The reason we took it on is we just wanted to bring this event with a higher caliber hockey to the community.”

In addition to the hockey, the game will be packed full of events.

“There is a Halloween theme to the game where there's going to be costume judging, so we're promoting people showing up in their Halloween costumes for the game,” Ruf said. “There’s some prizes for best Halloween costumes.”

There will be a puck toss, a 50/50 with a guaranteed $2,000 payout and a “high-end” raffle. The upstairs will be licensed for a bar and will be open until 1 a.m. After the game, there will be an autograph session with the players.

As of Sept. 26, in the SJHL’s preseason, the Terriers are sixth in the league, with five games played, with three wins, one loss and one shootout loss. The Mustangs are in ninth, with five games played, two wins and three losses.

Tickets for the event are available at Lux and Mane at 522 Third Ave or .
