KAMSACK — Kamsack RCMP responded to over 30 mischief and property related crime calls from Aug. 21 to Aug. 28.
This is a high number for the week. If you are leaving for a long period of time and have someone checking on your house, make sure that you take measures to ensure a lower possibility of someone breaking in or attempting to break in to your property.
Having cameras put up works well, if something takes place police will be able to pull the footage and possibly be able to identify the subject. Having a security system in place with an alarm also helps.
If someone is looking after the house for you and you are taking the only vehicle in the driveway, try having someone park their car in the driveway from time to time so that anyone scoping out the property thinks someone is coming and going. Something like motion lights can also help due to an individual instantly being lit up while going on your property. Not many people wanting to commit crime like to be completely visible.
This is a small list of things that could be done to help prevent crime on your property. A lot of the property crime we had this week had no measures put into place which makes it difficult for police to identify a subject. From vandalism, break-and-enters to property stolen, cameras would go a long way to help prevent crime and if not that, at least give a starting point to find who has committed the offence.
