KAMSACK — The Kamsack Powerhouse Museum hosted a special celebration on Aug. 25, honoring the 1946-47 Kamsack Cyclones baseball team, which was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame on Aug. 21, 2021. The event brought together former members of the Kamsack Cyclones, along with players from the Kamsack Royals, who shared memories and stories of their time on the field.
The Kamsack Cyclones name was chosen in respect to a devastating tornado that went through Kamsack on Aug. 9, 1944, referred to at the time as a “Cyclone”.
In 1953, they won the ManSask League Championship with a record of 35 wins out of 41 games. In 1954 they won 40 of 46 tournament and exhibition games, including the Indian Head Tournament, home of the Indian Head Rockets.
The Cote Royals were the predecessor to the Kamsack Cyclones who were succeeded by the Kamsack Royals.
Players of the Cote Royals would go on to be a part of the Kamsack Cyclones. Some of these players were, Albert Cottenie, Stan Green, Walter Haljeski, Bill Dewores, and Mike Dewores.
Community members gathered at the museum to pay tribute to the Cyclones' legacy in Saskatchewan baseball history. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase tickets for a barbecue lunch, which included a grilled burger, salad, and a piece of pie.
