The van will make it more cost-effective for smaller student groups to travel.

KAMSACK — A fundraising project has begun at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute with the objective of purchasing a 15-passenger van for the school’s athletic teams, as well as other groups, to use.

As of June 24, a “thermometer” keeping track of funds, shows that just under $10,000 has already been raised.

“Our goal is to raise between $30,000 and $50,000 and in order to achieve that, we are asking for the community’s help,” says an information pamphlet being distributed by the KCI Phys-ed 20/30 class.

Currently when teams or other groups of students travel for competitions or other events in other communities, they use division school buses, Mark Lucas, principal explained. Whether the bus contains a couple students or 54, the cost is the same, and with the cost of fuel, it becomes much too expensive for a smaller group to travel.

In the fundraiser, there are five different levels of donations: support, representing a donation of up to $99; bronze, from $100 to $249; silver, $250 to $499; gold, $500 to $999, and platinum, over $1,000.

“To recognize those who donate at the bronze, silver, gold or platinum level, we will have a plaque placed in our school,” the information said. “The higher level of donation, the larger the donor’s name or business’s name, will be.

“If you donate at the gold or platinum level, we will have a decal placed on the van to recognize you and your support.

“All donations are very much appreciated and we hope you can support us in our goal of achieving a 15-passenger van for our school.”

Donors are asked to fill out a short donation form and deliver it with the donation to the school or email [email protected]. Cheques are made payable to the KCI.

“We appreciate any donation as every donation is one step closer to our goal of purchasing [the van].”
