KAMSACK — Friends of Rev. Kevin and Jenny Sprong, and members of Westminster Memorial United Church in Kamsack, held a reception Aug. 25 to greet and say farewell to the Sprongs who are on their way to Â鶹´«Ã½AV Africa.
At the reception, held at the Woodlander Hotel, the Sprongs and those visiting them were served pieces of cake that were decorated with the words: “Happy retirement,” and “Thanks for the memories.”
“These are very special people here in Kamsack,” Sprong said during the reception. “We had a great relationship and they made me feel at home while I was here.”
Sprong served the United Church at Kamsack from 2014 to 2020 and parishioners in Kenville and Benito, Man., while his wife was a minister at Roblin and Swan River during that time.
Now retired ministers, the Sprongs spent the past two years at Chilliwack, B.C., and are returning to their home country of Â鶹´«Ã½AV Africa.
The couple, who has two daughters, will be living at Scottburgh, a seaside resort where retired ministers live near Durban.
While working at Kamsack, Kevin has been involved with the Kamsack Players adult drama club, having acted in three of the group’s productions; played cards with the bridge club, has curled, and golfed with the seniors’ club.
Sprong said that Susan Bear of Kamsack, who has been the director of the Kamsack Community Choir, sings during Sprong’s online service that can be found on Facebook at Mzansimystic.
