KAMSACK — Eaglestone Lodge, a senior living community known for its commitment to providing engaging activities and quality care for its residents, continues to elevate its offerings with recent renovations and innovative programs.
Anette Purchase, the dedicated activity co-ordinator at Eaglestone Lodge, shared insights into the community's vibrant atmosphere and the initiatives aimed at enhancing the residents' well-being. Purchase, who has been leading activities since last April, expressed her passion for her role, emphasizing the importance of keeping residents motivated and engaged on a daily basis.
“I think it's the best job. I have to keep them motivated every day. I have to come up with things for them to do, everyday exercises in the morning. We usually do two activities in the afternoon, like bowling and curling so just to keep them a little bit mobile while I also like to do memory games with them, just to keep them sharp. So every day is a good day.”
The community's activities span a variety of interests and abilities, ranging from morning exercises aimed at improving mobility to afternoon sessions featuring games like bingo and memory challenges. Purchase also highlighted outings to local attractions such as museums and theatres, providing residents with opportunities for social interaction and enjoyment.
Purchase said, “So every day is different and now that it's warming up, I'll be taking them out for outings like for coffee. Then once the museum's open I like to take them there just for little outings and just recently, I took them to the theatre here in town on a Sunday. It’s really nice that I can take some of the residents out that are more immobile. And we had the theatre to ourselves and had popcorn and they loved it. So I have to really think of different things for them to do and not the same things all the time. Right now, curling is really popular because it's on TV, also shuffleboard, but when summer comes I want to be doing activities outside with them.”
A notable aspect of Eaglestone Lodge's programming is its monthly birthday celebrations, where residents gather to honour those with birthdays during the month. Purchase mentioned the addition of diverse entertainment options to further enrich these gatherings.
“The Polka Pals come play for our monthly birthday, but we are looking for more entertainment, different types of entertainment too. So I've been reaching out to some people and trying to get more people, more diverse entertainment for them,” Purchase said.
Recent renovations have further enhanced the resident experience at Eaglestone Lodge. Purchase highlighted the installation of accessible bathrooms, funded in part by private donations, grants, and TeleMiracle, which have improved convenience and safety for residents with mobility challenges. Additionally, upgraded sidewalks from earlier in the year contribute to a more comfortable outdoor environment for residents to enjoy.
As Eaglestone Lodge continues to evolve and innovate, residents can look forward to ongoing enhancements and opportunities for enrichment. With dedicated staff at the helm, the community remains a vibrant and fulfilling place for seniors to call home.
