Berry passed away on June 20 at the age of 94 in Medford, Oregon.
Dorothy was born on a farm near Kamsack, Saskatchewan on March 2, 1921 to John and Elizabeth Konkin.
She attended local schools and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1941 with a B.Sc. degree in Home Economics. She served in the Canadian Red Cross from 1941 to 1945 during the Second World War. She moved to California in 1948 and began work as the food editor for the Oakland Tribune. Dorothy married Samuel H. Berry, a prominent defense lawyer, in 1952 and gave birth to her son, Samuel Jr., in 1956. In addition to being a wife, mother and homemaker, Dorothy was involved in various charitable organizations in the San Francisco East Bay for about 35 years.
She also enjoyed gardening, including the cultivation of rhododendrons.
She and Sam enjoyed close friends and travel during this especially happy period of her life. After her husband passed away in 1990, Dorothy developed her interest in duplicate bridge, which she played for the next twenty years. In 1997, she moved to Medford, where her son and his family live.
Here she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and making new friends in the local bridge chapter. Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers Peter and John and is survived by herbrother Jim (Konkin). She is also survived by her son Samuel Berry Jr., her daughter-in-law Mary and her granddaughters Ashley and Jennifer. In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, no service is planned.
