Government distributes charitable gaming grants worth more than $1.2 million

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is supporting groups and organizations in the province by providing more than $1.2 million in charitable gaming grants.

The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) is supporting groups and organizations in the province by providing more than $1.2 million in charitable gaming grants.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淥ur government is pleased to acknowledge the fundraising efforts of volunteer groups and organizations by providing them with this additional financial support,鈥 said Jeremy Harrison, Minister responsible for SLGA. 聽鈥淭he grants will help groups and organizations further contribute to local programming that benefits everyone from children to seniors.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 More than 700 organizations across Saskatchewan received charitable gaming grants during the third quarter of the fiscal year.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 At Canora a total of $4,796 was granted. The Canora Junior Elementary School received $522; Canora Minor Hockey, $3,982, and the Ukrianian Catholic Women鈥檚 League, $292.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 At Buchanan, where $698 was received, the Buchanan and District Recreaiton Baord received $223, and St. Anne鈥檚 Parish, $475.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Among other recipients were: Yorkton and area charities: $86,132; Swift Current and area charities: $35,090; the Queen City Kinsmen Club Inc.: $18,980; Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service Foundation (STARS): $100,358; and the Foam Lake Recreation Centre: $42,398.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The charitable gaming grant program supports groups and organizations that conduct charitable gaming including licensed bingos, raffles, break-open tickets, Texas Hold 鈥檈m poker and Monte Carlo events.聽Groups and organizations receive a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised from these activities.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Charitable gaming reports submitted by the groups are used by SLGA to automatically calculate individual grants.
