CANORA - On a near-perfect day for running, student athletes from Canora Composite School competed at the Yorkton’s Deer Park Golf Course in the first cross-country meet of the season.
The Sept. 16 meet was only for runners up to the U15 age group, according to CCS coaches Thomas Lowes and Leona Kitchen.
“Deer Park is a beautiful golf course, and we are very lucky to have them host a race for our runners.”
CCS athletes represented their school and community well, including three finishes in the top six in their age groups.
Riley Roberts finished 21st in the U10 girls 2km run out of 60 competitors, and Ashton Lamb placed 38th.
In the U11 boys 2km race, Coy Kraynick earned an 11th-place finish, while Connor Pozniak placed 53rd out of 66 runners.
CCS had four students running in the U11 Girls 2km competition. Olivia Owchar finished 22nd, Cora Tomcala was close behind in 24th, Antonia Gallego placed 30th and Rayna Edison was 39th out of 45 racers.
In the U12 boys 3km run, Drew Kitchen came in sixth and Camryn Burym placed 34th out of 39 runners.
The three CCS representatives in the U12 girls 3km run were: Talia Collingridge, fourth; Hannah Dutchak, 14th; and Rachel Mentanko, who placed 16th out of 34 runners.
Karter Shukin finished a strong third out of 27 runners in the U13 boys race, while Isaiah Crowe placed 22nd and Raphael Rollin finished 27th.
In the U13 girls run with 14 girls competing, Maggie Lemaigre placed 12th, and in a 12-runner field in the U14 boys race, Reid Kitchen came in 12th.
“Our runners did very well for their first run, and now we have a starting spot to grow and improve from,” said the CCS coaches.
The next cross-country meet is Sept. 27, Friday, at Saltcoats.
