CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 39 calls from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, some of which included: four 911 Act calls, one animal call, one Fire Prevention Act call, one fraud, two harassing communications, two lost and found, five Mental Health Act calls, one mischief, one other provincial call, one resisting arrest, two suspicious persons, four thefts, two traffic collisions, 11 traffic offenses, and one wellbeing check.
911 misused
On Sept. 28, a female in Canora called 911 multiple times to complain about the quality of her meals and lack of sleep. Police spoke with the female and educated her on proper use of 911.
Drunk hit-and-run
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a hit-and-run complaint at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Nelson Street in Canora on Sept. 29. A black SUV with a flat tire struck a parked red Chevy Malibu and drove away. Police located the vehicle parked across town. An intoxicated female was questioned about the vehicle collision but was subsequently arrested for a separate incident unrelated to the hit-and-run.
Land fraud scare
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on Sept. 29 that a quarter section of land was transferred out of the owner’s name. Police investigated the report and determined no theft or fraud occurred and that there was a misunderstanding due to an administration error.
Camper trailer fire
On Oct. 2, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a camper trailer fire on Whitesand Drive in Canora. The Canora Fire Department attended and put out the fire. The cause of the fire is not suspicious.
Window mischief
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a mischief complaint on Oct. 2 at the Canora Service Station. A window located at the back of the business was broken by a rock, which also caused damaged to a vehicle parked inside. Police continue to investigate.
Vehicle hide-and-seek
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the alley north of Centre Avenue in Canora on Oct. 3. Police located the vehicle and spoke to the driver whom admitted to playing hide-and-seek with friends in two other vehicles.
