RCMP Report: Four cabins lost in structure fire at Burgis Beach

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a structure fire call at Burgis Beach where four cabins were destroyed and another was damaged.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 42 calls from June 15 to June 22, including a report that catalytic converts were stolen from vehicles parked on a farm in the RM of Buchanan.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 42 calls from June 15 to June 22, some of which included: two 911 Act calls, one animal call, one assault, one assault with a weapon, one breach of peace, one criminal harassment, three Fire Prevention Act calls, one harassing communications, three Liquor Act calls, one Mental Health Act call, two mischiefs, two other provincial calls, one theft, eight traffic offenses, three suspicious persons, one theft of a truck, one wellbeing check, two Trespass Act calls, and two prisoners.

Large fire

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on June 21 to a structure fire call at Burgis Beach. Police attended and assisted the Canora Fire Department. Four cabins were destroyed and another was damaged. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is investigating the fire.

Driving while prohibited

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a black Ford SUV with a push bar on the front bumper of the vehicle on June 21. The driver was known to police and was found to be on a Canada-wide driving prohibited order. The male was arrested and charged for driving while prohibited.

Rowdy young people

On June 21, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a disturbance at the Good Spirit Lake Campground involving youth yelling and swearing. Police attended and determined there was no longer a disturbance occurring.

Knife threat

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report that a youth pulled a knife and threatened another youth at a park in Canora on June 21. Police continue to investigate.

Herbicide issue

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a mischief report on June 19 that a lawn in Canora was damaged by Roundup.

Not a good idea

On June 17, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report that a male was at a residence in Canora where he was not supposed to be. Police located the male walking down the street and he was arrested and charged for failing to comply with no-contact conditions of an undertaking.

Kitchen fire

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on June 16 to a kitchen fire inside a residence in Preeceville. The Preeceville Fire department extinguished the fire.

High

On June 15, the Canora/Sturgis were dispatched to a complaint of a male high on drugs rolling around on a lawn in Canora. Police attended the location of the male but he had already moved on and could not be located.

Farm theft

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report that catalytic converts were stolen from vehicles parked on a farm in the RM of Buchanan on June 15. The theft would have occurred in April 2023.
