RCMP: Police called to disturbance during provincial playoffs

Police were called to the Preeceville Rink to keep the peace during a provincial playoff hockey game after multiple reports had been received concerning people fighting and damage to a vehicle.

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from March 30 to April 5, including a vehicle taken without permission in Preeceville. Police located the vehicle the following day in another town.

CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 31 calls from March 30 to April 5, including: two animal calls, one assault, one break-and-enter, one Coroners Act call, two disturbing the peace, three mischiefs, 12 traffic offenses, one other provincial call, one possession of stolen property, one traffic collision, one sexual assault, four suspicious persons, and one wellbeing check.

Hockey fan fights

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to the Preeceville Rink on March 31 to keep the peace during a provincial playoff hockey game. Multiple reports had been received concerning people fighting and property damage to a vehicle. Police patrolled the Preeceville Rink and no further complaints were received.

Vehicle found

On March 31, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report that a vehicle was taken without permission in Preeceville. Police located the vehicle the following day in another town.

Left hospital early

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on April 2 to a complaint that a patient left the hospital in Canora against medical advice. Police located the male and spoke to him about leaving the hospital early.

Wind playing tricks?

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a possible break-and-enter in Preeceville on April 2. Police attended and determined there was no evidence of a break-and-enter, and the wind may have blown a door open on the house.

Wanted driver flees

On April 4, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP attempted to stop a 2006 Black Cadillac on Norway Road in Canora. The driver was known to police to be wanted for driving while prohibited. The driver refused to stop and fled from police northbound on Highway 9. Police continue to investigate.

Assault

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report on April 4 that a male was assaulted in Preeceville. Police continue to investigate.

Failure to meet conditions

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP arrested a male outside a residence in Canora for failing to comply with conditions of a conditional sentence order on April 5. The male was remanded into custody for court in Yorkton.

Firearms arrest

On April 5, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP assisted the Kamsack RCMP with an assault complaint involving possible firearms. A male was arrested on scene without incident.
