Popular Hospital Auxiliary spring tea returns to Canora

After a four-year interruption due to COVID-19, the Canora Hospital Spring Tea and Raffle was held at the Keen Age Centre on May 11

CANORA - After a four-year interruption due to COVID-19, the Canora Hospital Spring Tea and Raffle returned to Canora on May 11 at the Keen Age Centre. After the lengthy absence, President Lorie Wasyliw said the group is getting back into hosting events slowly.

“There were 43 people in attendance which is about half our usual number before the pandemic,” said Wasyliw. “All our volunteer ladies worked hard to collect door prizes, sell raffle tickets, and set up for the event.”

In spite of COVID, Wasyliw said the Auxiliary has been busy raising money over the past few years to support the hospital in needed purchases:

  • Two sleeper chairs & blinds - $18,413
  • Lucas Compression Machine - $14,890
  • Poppler & Grab - $3,286.
  • Mamography - $3,000
  • Two air pressure mattresses - $2,991
  • Health Foundation - $2,000
  • Recliner for palliative care room - $1,608.
  • Four wheelchairs & pulse oximeter - $1,502.
  • Two coffee perks for palliative carts - $357
  • Pulse oximeter - $210
  • Groceries - $157

Wasyliw added that the Auxiliary also provides a $500 annual scholarship for a local graduating student going into the healthcare field.

At the spring tea, the door prize winner of a plant donated by Carnation Street Florist was Sophie Fullawka. Mary Lou Ryder won geraniums.

Julie Korchinski was the winner of a cake donated by Rose Remenda.

Raffle winners were: Ken Chebater ($300), Andrea Barteski ($200), Sophie Fullawka (picture frame) and Diane McNeil (lap cover).
