At the age of 94 years, Lillian Ortynsky passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on July 28, 2015. Lillian was born in the Mikado District on October 11, 1920 to Paul and Anna (Senkiw) Gogal. She attended school near Mikado. After brief employment in Canora, Lillian moved to Winnipeg with her sister Helen. During her time in Winnipeg, she met Peter Ortynsky and they were united in marriage in 1949 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Heritage Church in Canora.
Lillian worked as a dedicated homemaker. She provided for her family and maintained a large garden while she raised her two sons, Garry and Dale. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ladies Church Auxiliary for many years. After Peter’s retirement from coowner of Canora Central Motors, Lillian and Peter had the opportunity to spend and enjoy a few winters in Weslaco, Texas.
In 2000, soon after the Ortynsky 100 year family reunion, Peter passed away. Lillian was also predeceased by her parents, Paul and Anna; sisters: Helen Gogal, Mary Melnychuk, and Sophie Romanow; and her brother, Marion. She is survived by her sons: Dale (Sue) of Calgary, AB and Garry (Kathy) of West Vancouver, BC; and her grandchildren: Ashley, Brenna, Carter and Kristin; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A Prayer Service was held on Friday, July 31, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home. Funeral Services commenced Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Lillian Ortynsky. Family and friends unable to attend are invited to sign an online guest book for Lillian at www.lesonsfuneralhome.ca. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON’S FUNERAL HOME, Canora.
