CANORA - Derek Serdachny, the new CCS principal starting this fall, shared the administrator’s remarks with the Class of 2024.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Canora Composite School graduation ceremony,” said Serdachny. “I want to acknowledge our Good Spirit School Division board member, Shannon Leson who is in attendance.

“Today, we gather to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. We are here not only to honour the achievements of the graduates but also to acknowledge the support systems that have been there during their journey – parents, teachers, staff, and friends who have all played crucial roles in shaping these young individuals.

“Graduates, you are entering into the world outside of high school during interesting times,” continued Serdachny. “There are wars taking place around the world, social media seems to consume our lives, the cost of living is increasing, and technology is advancing so quickly that it is hard to keep up with it.

“If you are feeling some uncertainty, that is normal. My hope is that you find comfort knowing that your time at school was filled with invaluable lessons that will guide you in life. For example, getting to class on time, networking with your peers, public speaking, making mistakes and accepting responsibility, developing empathy and don’t forget the dance moves you learned from Mr. [Dustin] Nielsen. You are officially ready for wedding dances.

“One might say the most important thing about school is academics, I know it is also the process. Knowing that you can take the easy way out using ChatGPT but choosing not to. Receiving constructive criticism and using it to make you better. Showing empathy for others who aren’t like you, don’t look like you, or have the same beliefs as you. Many of you had these experiences at school and no doubt will rely on them as you enter into the next chapter of your lives.

“As you prepare to continue your journey, remember the community that has supported you and the foundation you have built here. Take some time and reflect on the moments that are important to you. These memories will help guide you and bring you comfort when you need it."

Serdachny encouraged the graduates to boldly go into the next phase of there lives.

“There will be times of doubt as you enter into this next chapter, always strive to do your best and listen to your heart. Stay true to yourself and follow your passion, you will find your path.

"Congratulations to the class of 2024. We are proud of each and every one of you.”
