INVERMAY - “I am excited to start my new journey as a teacher at Invermay School.”
As the new kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 teacher Lily Lozinski plans to make the most of her new opportunity.
Lozinski was born in Calgary and moved to the Yorkton area when she was eight.
“Growing up I tried out multiple sports, was also in band, and additionally was a part of the SRC. The activity that I most enjoyed was Ukrainian dance. Unfortunately, I did not join a group this year, however I plan on teaching my class a thing or two!”
She attended school in Yorkton and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Indigenous Education through Parkland College (now Suncrest College).
“I was fortunate enough to complete my internship under Jennifer Prychak at Canora Junior Elementary School. During my internship I was also luckily able to be an assistant coach to the junior girls basketball team at Canora Composite School.”
Lozinski grew up in a family where she was the oldest of seven siblings, which contributed significantly to her decision to pursue teaching as a career.
“Helping my siblings as they grew up has absolutely given me a skill set that is useful every day in the classroom.”
After completing her degree, Lozinski taught Grade 2 at Victoria School in Kamsack for the 2023/24 school year.
“During my time at Victoria, I met many great people and mentors who guided me through my first year. As luck would have it, I ended up being the coach for the junior girls basketball team at KCI that year as well.
“As grateful as I am and was for my time at Victoria school, I knew I could not pass up the opportunity to teach in Invermay,” Lozinski continued. “I have been keen on attending events such as the Invermay Fair and Winter Festival for multiple years now. Not only is it close to home but I also have a great appreciation for the sense of community the town holds, so it only makes sense that Invermay is where I teach.”
Lozinski said she finds teaching to be "an extremely rewarding career.
“I am delighted to be a part of the journeys of so many young people. Being able to make connections with every unique individual is second to none. I hope to make a positive difference in all my students' lives, as they do in mine.”
She recently moved to an acreage near Buchanan, “which has allowed me to spend more time quadding, enjoying the outdoors and most importantly hanging out with my pets.”
