CANORA - With the weather getting cooler, it’s time for another entertaining season of musical performance with the Stars for Saskatchewan concert series presented by the Canora Arts Council.
The first of three concerts of the 2024/25 season is scheduled for Oct. 24, when Tom & Kalissa Landa will take to the stage in Canora. According to an arts council release, “You will be treated to an array of genres, including Celtic, Folk, Latin, Mexican and Roots music, sung in both English and Spanish to represent their respective Mexican and Chilean heritages. In addition, they will lean on folk musical idioms, such as Celtic, Roots and Americana.
“Tom and Kalissa have a lovely vocal harmony blend and draw the listener in with great songs played on fiddle, guitar and jarana (Mexican eight-string guitar),” continued the release. “Perhaps one of the most endearing things about the couple is their relaxed and genuine stage banter and the stories about the songs.”
The second concert of the season is Prairie Debut presents the Prairie Sons, coming to Canora on March 6, 2025. The Prairie Sons, made up of cellist David Liam Roberts, and pianist Goodwin Friesen, draw inspiration from the vast Canadian West thanks to their deep prairie roots.
Wrapping up the season on April 10 will be The Wardens and their haunting three part harmonies, who don’t just sing about the land, they’ve been part of it as Canadian national park wardens.
