CANORA - With the 2024/25 hockey season ready to get underway, Canora Minor Hockey hosted a goaltender camp on Oct. 19 and 20.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen issues at the Canora Civic Centre, the camp had to be moved to the Preeceville Arena, where it was led by WHL Coach Daniel Wapple of Regina, owner of Increased Performance.
“Daniel and his team of coaches came out to work with local goaltenders and provide excellent one-on-one coaching,” said Stacy Vangen, Canora Minor Hockey President. “Wapple and two of his instructors came out to work with our 16 registered goaltenders from Canora Minor Hockey and surrounding area goaltenders.”
The school included a pair of four-hour sessions, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
“Without goaltenders we can't play hockey, so CMH feels it's important to invest in goalies,” said Vangen.
Among the 16 registered goalies were half-a-dozen from Canora Minor Hockey: Connor Kraynick and Cody Vangen (U18), Mason Reine (U15) Jasper Wintonyk (U13), and Lev Blauva and Atlin Godhe (U9).
“Goalies Braden Skibinsky (U11), Nixon Lukey (U13) and Emmett Lukey (U15) had all wanted to attend, but were unable to make it,” added Vangen.
