Local 3D archery shoot filled with fun and competition

The Assiniboine River Archery Club 3D shoot was held on Aug. 10 and 11 under sunny skies with near ideal conditions.

CANORA- Under sunny skies and near ideal conditions, The Assiniboine River Archery Club 3D shoot was held on Aug. 10 and 11. The 29th annual event took place at the Doug and Debby Lapitsky farm east of Canora for the second year in a row, with 90 archers registered on Saturday and 59 on Sunday.

“It was a good turnout,” said Club President Desiree Owchar. “We brought back the shishliki supper for the first time in a number of years, and we had a turnout of 145 for that. Ryan Monette did a great job putting it together for us. Hopefully we can do it again.”

The shoot was set up with A and B courses, with the A course in the trees and more shaded, while the B course was placed more in the open along a hillside, near the Whitesand River.

“Keeps it interesting and realistic for archers,” said Owchar. “The targets are positioned so they might have to shoot between branches, around a tree, things like that.”

The two-day archery competition was based on one shoot per day, with a possible score of 800 points.

In Compound Unlimited Fixed Pin Male, Mike Owchar was first with a two-day total of 688 points. Devon Paley placed second with 411 points over the weekend.

Emily Owchar won the Compound Unlimited Fixed Pin Female category with 538 points.

In Compound Unlimited Male completion, Scott Green had the top score with 719 points. Second place went to Dave Talbot with 695 points, while Keith Ostafie placed third at 652 points over the two days.
