CANORA - The Canora Composite School yearbook committee handed out the 2020-2021 yearbook to the students of CCS on Nov. 23 after a wait of nearly 18 months. The book presented a reminder of the time when schools across Canada were forced to implement COVID-19 friendly arrangements and to enforce social distancing and wearing masks. The designs were partially created by the Grade 9 students of the 2020-2021 school year as part of an art class. Most of the pictures in the book were captured in the latter half of the school year as some pandemic restrictions were lifted by Saskatchewan’s government by that time. The long wait was due to a number of editing and manufacturing problems, some of which were indirectly caused by the COVID pandemic. The main goal presented by the yearbook was the hope for a bright future following the year of 2020, which is widely considered the worst year of the century.

A mother and toddler are reeling with shock after they became the victims of a random kidnapping near Portage La Prairie, Man. on Friday. The alleged suspect faked having medical distress on the side of the Trans-Canada Highway and demanded the mother to drive him to Winnipeg. The incident followed a chain of events involving the suspect. On the same day, RCMP responded to a call from a hotel in Portage La Prairie about a man who was acting erratically and may have been on drugs. Once police arrived at the hotel, the man hopped into a stolen truck and attempted to run over the RCMP members before ramming the cop car and fleeing the scene. A short police chase ensued after the altercation, but was quickly called off due to dangerous driving. Sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., RCMP received a call from a female who was abducted on the side of the road along with her two-year-old child. An amber alert was in the process of being sent out when around 6:30 p.m., RCMP received another call from the mother who said they were in Winnipeg and were safe after the man fled the vehicle. The suspect was arrested early Sunday morning, ending a tense few hours for the province.
